This is my third Otis & Oliver necktie, and I've been happy every time. Their designs tend to be well-curated (it's harder to go wrong with their selections) and their ties well-constructed.The "Dakar" tie is no different. Not all the ties in this listing have the same type of fabric; some have a tighter weave. Some of them are like this navy tie, and they have a looser, woolly loft (even though they're cotton).I really enjoy the woolly texture, because texture affords style—whether it's wool fluff, linen roughness, or satin silk. The wooliness is aristocratically casual, like it's suited for relaxing (or hunting?) in the country. This look is appropriate for most workplaces where you might wear a tie, unless the standard is more along the lines of sharkskin suits. This texture will hold onto dog hair, but I've found it comes off easily with a lint brush. Unless you have a dog with those very short, pointy hairs. This is a skinny tie, so it's suited for thinner frames. If you are wide or wear wide lapels, you probably want thicker ties. The Dakar tie has a dark navy background that might even seem black in dark rooms. The thin plaid stitching is in rust, violet, and lime. These colors might sound odd, but the mass of the dark navy swallows up the excitement of the contrast colors so they add visual texture, rather than standing out as distractions. I think this tie will fit in with most color schemes the majority of people wear, without clashing. So if you could use a woolly navy tie, I think this one's a good way to go.
